Cobalt HMP

Description
Cobalt HMP is the finest cobalt powder produced by Umicore. It’s Fisher sub sieve size of 0,5µm ensures a high specific surface area which leads to a very reactive powder that sinters at low temperatures and gives high hardness.

Sintering (Sintering Charts)
The pure powder is sintered in a standard hot press cycle ideally in a temperature range of 750 - 800°C. Hardness values in the range of 108 Rockwell B scale can be typically achieved.

The highly reactive sintering characteristics also show that Cobalt HMP can also be used advantageously in a pressure free sintering environment.

Typical applications
Cobalt HMP can be used in all cutting tools where a cobalt based bond system is commonly used. It can also be used as a sintering aid for other cobalt powders. Blending in 10 - 20% additions of Cobalt SMS and Cobalt EFP will increase the Cobalt HMP compact’s cold pressed green strength whilst increasing the formers’ sintering reactivity and hardness.
