GeO2 for PET production

GeO₂ is used as an additive in the production of Poly Ethylene Teraphtalate (PET) for the production of bottles, sheet and film and textile fibres. GeO₂ based PET is highly transparent and heat resistant. The non-toxicity of GeO₂ is an additional advantage of this material.

Desired properties of GeO₂ for PET are :

Low drying loss
Low ignition loss
Low chlorine content to prevent corrosion of equipment
High purity; no foreign material, such as colouring elements and additives or stabilisers
Good solubility

Umicore offers a variety of qualities:

Hexagonal standard grade GeO₂, soluble in ethylene glycol via water solution

Amorphous grade GeO₂, directly soluble in ethylene glycol

Fast soluble grade GeO₂, soluble in boiling ethylene glycol in a few hours time

Electronic grade GeO₂

BGO GeO₂
